learning through play

Learning through play helps young children to learn and develop through doing and talking, the means by which young children learn to think.

Our setting uses the Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance to plan and provide a range of play activities, which helps children to make progress in each of the areas of learning and development.

Well-Established Setting with a Great Reputation

St James' preschool is run by a parent-led committee, alongside a team of qualified staff. You can be confident that the preschool's first priority is the children's developmental needs. And it's a great way for parents to get involved too!

Preparing the Children for Primary School

The staff regularly take the children on trips in our local community. Some of the previous trips have included Petts Wood Library, Jubilee Park and the local pet store, as well as nature-spotting walks around the local area.

Preparing the Children for Primary School

At St James', we focus on preparing your child for their next step into primary school. Children are able to attend full day sessions 3 days a week (Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays), which is a great introduction to the longer days at primary school.

Regular Updates On Your Child's Progress

Regular Updates On Your Child's Progress

At St James' , we encourage parents to speak to staff to discuss any queries you may have or simply to see how your child is getting on. On a more formal basis, we offer parent's evening and you will receive regular updates on your child's progress through the Baby Days app, in which you can login to see your child's activities and also their key developmental milestones.

Key Person

Preparing the Children for Primary School

Regular Updates On Your Child's Progress

Every child is allocated a "key person" who will take a particular interest in their development. The key person will maintain links with parents, working with them to ensure that the children are supported in reaching their full potential.
